Update!
Our 1st team have now made it further than any English team in recent years, all the way through to the last 8 of the competition.
Yesterday they completed a fantastic double - with a 10 - 0 trouncing of a local team, and then a 2-1 victory over the Iranian National squad. The second game was a real battle, and was settled in the final minute by a deserved penalty following a blatant push. Sam House cooly slotted home and won the game.
This morning (at 8am!!) we played Dundalk from Ireland. After leading early doors, from a superb strike from Josh Mullett, we were pegged back in the final minute - when the Ref awarded a penalty against keeper George Passingham for a push. In the penalty shoot out, for once, we prevailed. All 5 EFC lads slotted home, and we won the game when Passingham redeemed himself with a fantastic one handed save.
The 2nd team were very unluckily pushed out of the tournament yesterday. THey drew their game 0-0 - but lost on penalties. This was particularly hard to take - bearing in mind that they had not conceded one goal in the entire competition! As you might expect, the lads were distraught at the final whistle - but believe me, they have been a credit to themselves and the Club.
So, now we look forward to the quarter finals. Our game is at 2.15pm on the main pitch at Heden. It is televised on Swedish TV - so lets hope we can put on a display to be proud of. More news later.
