Strikes me that this is unreservedly good news. Obviously it would great if they gave a great deal more, but as the Premiership is a (very sucessfull) business and not a charity, I think it's a big shock they are giving anything at all.

come on, mate! it's better than a hoof in the goolies?

plus, they didn't have to do it!

why should premier clubs help non-league inbreds that spend to much?

I tend to agree with Ade. As a non league fan I think we should be gratefull for any money we get. It's great that the Big boys are passing money down the pyramid. I can't think of any other industry that would do that

Take my industry. We have worked hard and invested lots of money to make our hotel the best in the area. We are usually fully booked and people are always wanting to stay with us. We have raised the towns profile and so people who can't get to stay with us then stay with the smaller hotels. Are you saying we should also have to give up some of our profits to the little mom n pop B&B's in town because they are struggling to get people to stay there??

Yes Mark spot on. When you think about it in the cold light of day, its remarkable that collectively all the Premiership clubs chose to give millions of Pounds away to a bunch of clubs who they are probably barely aware of. It's also worth saying that lots of clubs at our level spend stupidly (Crawley currently being a classic case); if I was a supporter of say Fulham, I would be asking why my club should be involved in given money to a club apparently able to offer players thousands of Pounds a week. Certainly no club at our level should need this extra income, it should be a welcome bonus for which we are grateful.

having read the NLP yesterday it doesn't  appear as clear cut as a straight handout.

£7500 for BSBS clubs and you'll have to raise an equivalent amount to get it as well for communtity projects.

I wondered what the amount was - couldn't believe it would be as much as £17,600.

Agree with much of the sentiment below - if anyone is to be responsible for spreading the wealth I'd have thought it should be the down to the FA rather the premiership or football league.

I completely agree with Mark, when you put it that way. However, the Premiership is a huge cash cow, who will only waste that money elsewhere. So they may aswell help out the lower eschelones of English football. In the medium/long term they could reap the benefits of this payout, by poaching some young starlets that some clubs might now be able to put through their academys with this additional money they receive. Its not alot really is it and although its a nice windfall for all the clubs receiving the payout, its not going to change lives is it......?
I'm not sure if the 1.2m per season has been generated by an equal payment from all 20 Premiership clubs. That would equate to just 60K per club, which looking at todays headlines, Liverpools contribution is the equivalent of 4 days salary for Joe Cole. So peanuts to them!!

I guess being cyncial (and lets face it probably realistic) about this from the premierships point of view its probably little more than a PR exercise.

Still if filling in some paperwork means we can earn a few grand then I'm sure every BSS club is gonna have a good look into that possibility.
