I dont suppose he's been brought in for his goals, but will be expected to create and lay the chances on. I see that Bairdy is mentioning "finances are really tight" e.t.c, so i'll be keen to learn why they are so tight given all the players who have left and are now off the wage bill:- Out Forbes Taggs Cook Oliver Howells In Holland Slabber Graham Without really knowing how much money is available, just totalling up what the outgoing 4 would have been on, versus what the incoming 3 are probably on, surely it means there is still quite a bit of money in the pot....

The Financial crisis is a smoke screen. If the Directors who are putting money in are having difficulties with their business's outside of football, then yes they will put less in. However facts are, 6 players out (including some very high earners) and only 3 players in. If you think that means all things are equal, then i think its a naive view. Not only that, but if we are in a financial crisis then i would be expecting Bairdy to be signing last seasons squad on reduced terms. All the comments coming out of the club state that the players have been retained on the same money. So that indicates to me that the budget is either the same as last year, or is higher, hence the use of the word "Substantial". If i were in Mr Malone's shoes and i had less money to spend on players this season, i would not be telling people i have a substantial budget. I would be saying i have a reduced budget. Simples.
...even Forbesy was offered same terms as last year to stay (quote from the echo), so if the clubs highest earner and someone Bairdy clearly wanted out. was offered the same deal as last season, its a stone banker that all other players were given the same deals aswell. Does that tell you we have a financial crisis?, because it doesnt to me. There appears to be no tightening of belts, so the money freed up by those leaving, will i'm sure be available for Bairdy to use to strenghten this seasons squad.

I take your point Rendel about the 3 players who came in towards the end of the season, but by that time we also had Challis, Clark, Day & Goodhind (for a few months) all having left the club and therefore coming off the wage bill for a few months, so their wages will have also been offset against those 3 new guys coming in and other loanees that we brought in for a few games here and there. Im really not trying to make a big deal of it, my message is, im sure there is more money in the budget and we will see more players coming in before the start of the season. If we dont, then i fear for us, particulary as we seem to be starying with a large injury list already. As regards "Substantial", i love that word, and if my boss tells me im getting a substantial payrise, i expect to be getting quite a bit more, not less than i earnt last year and not the same as last year. Its just a word, but an important word when making a club statement....
